The first has pierced sides with a decoration around the edges both inside and out, the second has plain sides with a feathering pattern around the edges on the outside. The third again has pierced sides with a feathering decoration around the edges both inside and out.

This seasonal delicacy in the nineteenth century led to the development of specialized serving tools, including silver tongs, plates, and platters.
