Description

A rare creamware teapot indented ear shaped handle and a flower knop to the cover decorated in onglaze  iron red , puce, green and black enamels manufactured by William Greatbatch of Fenton Staffordshire England.

The teapot is decorated on one side with the  Roman Goddess Aurora in her chariot and on the other side with a rising sun and two putti awakening  Aurora’s brother the Sun God Helios .

The Goddess Aurora is symbolic of Love ,life and new beginning’s. She is the first to wake each morning,  rising from the sea and streaking across the sky east to west lead by winged horses in her chariot of light announcing the coming  of the sun God.

The inspiration for the hand decorated scenes on the teapot  probably came from a fresco painted by Guereine at the Casino di Villa Boncompagni Ludevisi in Rome “1621”and later copies .

Condition; Cover and hairline crack in the top of the handle restored
