Three Staffordshire pearlware blue and white, fan shaped, asparagus servers. The first has pierced sides with a blue decoration around the edges both inside and out, the second has plain sides with a hand painted feathering pattern around the edges on the outside. The third again has pierced sides with hand painted feathering decoration around the edges both inside and out and has brown staining to the pottery.
Pottery and Porcelain asparagus servers were created to elevate the elegance of a refined dining experience to a higher level. Asparagus was considered a luxurious and fashionable food. This seasonal delicacy in the nineteenth century led to the development of specialized serving tools, including silver tongs, plates, and platters.
